Off road parking for 3 cars.\n\n Looking out across the hills and mountains with a river valley below Hill Cottage is set in 8 acres of unspoilt hillside amidst stunning scenery.  This detached former croft cottage has been totally and painstakingly restored by its Highland owners and now offers an exceptionally high standard of modern accommodation whilst retaining many of its unique historic features.  The main room downstairs is open-plan and combines the ultimate in olde world charm with modern living.  An original exposed stone wall deep-silled windows and an attractive fireplace are complemented by plush deep leather sofas solid wood floors and a superb modern kitchen with range-style cooker. Upstairs there are two beautifully presented and colour-coordinated bedrooms together with a spacious bathroom with large shower and corner bath.\nThe garden grounds are fully enclosed dog owners please note there are very friendly sheep in the area so dogs must be kept under control at all times.  Hill Cottage is in an elevated position with stunning views across the valley or strath below. A path meanders down the gently sloping hillside to the pretty river Kanaird – a lovely place to take a picnic or just enjoy a quiet river stroll along the banks.     Lovely location for this cottage. Easy to get to and roads in and out are excellent quality, the location is perfect for viewing north and south of its location. There is plenty of parking, a garage, and a drying rack in the garage. The north coast of Scotland is within an easy 90 minute drive from here, it's close to Ullapool where there is a small Tesco supermarket and some local shops too. Many great walks are available in and from this location. The cottage itself is really well finished. Amazing quality kitchen, doors, and bathroom, the only slight complaints I will list below. In the kitchen itself..... The knives, forks and spoons are of a high quality, so there are no issues here, you will however find problems if you cook a meat joint, as there is only one 'large' knife, which is fairly blunt, the only other kind of knife we could find was a steak knife, with a broken handle. Glasses. I think it's fairly safe to say that most people who visit Scotland will be sampling at some point some of the finer whiskies that Scotland has to offer, there wasn't a single Whisky glass in sight. Tumbler glasses, there were 2 standard size glasses, which weren't matching, and odd sizes. No pint glasses. There was however a nice set of wine glasses available. The frustrating thing about this is that the kitchen itself is beautiful and has two cupboards designed as glass cupboards which would show off a nice set of glasses very well. Pots & Pans, great quality pots, there were no issues here, though it might be nice to use some of that great cupboard space for something like a good quality casserole dish, slow cooker, etc. But I appreciate that different people use different items, and not everything can be catered for, but if your plan is to put something in the oven and cook on slow to eat for when you return later in the day, you might struggle to find the right item to use here. Bedrooms... There were two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other two single beds, great views through the small windows onto the fields, sheep and mountains in the background. The double bed was small, and creaky, so if your partner is a light sleeper and you get up to use the bathroom during the night, you'll both be waking up, might be something to bear in mind if you or your partner don't sleep very well. Bathroom. Great quality bathroom, and finished well. There's a spacious shower and also a large corner bath. Heating and Hot water. No issues here, the heating warms the cottage up in no time, and there's no issues with hot water either, and the owner provided details of how to use them too. There's also a nice electric log effect fire in the lounge. Lounge. Here's where my review will take on a bit of a negative slant, for one reason. The leather 3 piece suite. I'm personally a fan of leather sofas, and have no issues with the fact that it was leather, what I did struggle with however is that there was a very noticeable smell of cigarettes coming from it throughout the entire week there. I also didn't find the sofa very comfortable, though the comfort of the sofa has no bearing on the numbers I have given for the review, comfort is a personal choice, but I don't believe the smell of cigarettes on anything within a home - from - home cottage is excusable. I suppose if you yourself are a smoker then this won't be an issue, but for the both of us, this was a huge NO, we found that we had to use the single quilts from the beds to cover the sofa and mask the smell as much as we could. My review might sound a little picky, but for very good reason. With a few small changes, this cottage has potential to be one of the best on offer in this part of the country, and I'm hoping that the owner could make these very small changes, as it would benefit him in the long run. Below are my suggestions for the owner. -Change the double bed to a king or a super king, the room is more than big enough. Most people getting to this location have driven a long time, and a big comfy bed would be amazing on arrival. -Put a knife block in the kitchen with some good quality knives in it, and also leave a knife sharpener so people can sharpen the knives when they blunt. -Put some nice glasses, whisky and tumbler in the glass display cabinets. -Remove the three piece suite and change it for one that doesn't have a smell of cigarettes. -Maybe a small selection of pyres cooking dishes would be useful (and easier to dish-wash than the metal ones in the cupboards) My ratings of 6 for comfort and equipment and cleanliness are due to the issues with knives and glasses, and also for the cigarette smell from the sofa, these bring the value for money down in my opinion. The physical cleanliness was very good, but I don't see any other possible way to reflect the score fairly.

    Our 2nd stay at Hill Cottage and we can't wait to come back. Its the perfect location if you want to visit the North coast or the Summer Isles or just sit outside and take in the view down the glen. Also very convenient for walking in the beautiful Assynt hills.Close enough to Ullapool where you can get all your supplies and visit the bookshops and watch the ferries come in from Stornaway. Very peaceful and quiet. We've lost count of the number of cottages we have visited over 35 years but this beats the lot.

    An excellent holiday in great location. The property is definitely 5 star, it is a credit to the owners. The amenitites are in Ullapool which is a short drive away. The views are breathtaking, so much to see and do in the area.

    We had a wonderful time at ‘Hill Cottage’. It was sparkling clean with many thoughtful touches - fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge. The views were unparalleled and we very much enjoyed exploring the local area. Thank you for a lovely week.
