A cosy cottage in a very quiet location, with everything you need. We love this place, within easy reach of beautiful beaches, walking and wildlife. Some might say that it is 'old-fashioned', but it suits us well, this is our second visit and we hope to come again. Connections and signals for technology are unpredictable, but we prefer to leave those things behind anyway!

This little cottage is a gem of a find, we didn't want to leave. It had everything we needed and exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect for exploring without going too far to find other beaches. We cooked all our own food and the kitchen was great. Relaxing in the evening we were always cosy and warm. It was wonderful to sit outside the cottage and read and view the sea and hills. The quiet was so restful. We met Christine who sorts you out with the fish man and George who cuts the grass who were both charming. We spent many hours on the beach with the dog paddling and having it all to ourselves. The weather was sunshine all week and the colour of the sea amazing. Thank you, such a great week.

We had a great week at Hillside. If you're looking for a relaxing and peaceful cottage, then this is the place for you. We had fun trying to find it on google but the directions are spot on. There is a small bay within walking distance, which you can access the sand and sea over a small section of rocks or you can sit on the grass and just relax. The sheep are free roaming so you have to remember to close gates. It is a hilly neck of the woods, so make sure you mode of transport is up to it. The cottage itself had everything we needed, don't expect wifi or mobile signal. The owner has even thought of power cuts and break downs, making sure that there is equipment there if you need it. You did hear the moaning wind in the upstairs bedrooms, but we expected that being an old cottage. The garden does have two sections, the first little section at the front is 3/4 ft high brick wall with a gate at either side. The outer section is fenced and gated with most holes plugged, from a dog point of view, a small one could slip through the gates. Also there are drainage runs, one behind the collage and the second to the right, depending on your dog these might be a problem. One of our dogs, is the shy and retiring type and sniffed before venturing in, the other full of life and loved being free, disappeared and reappeared with a painful leg, luckily ok. Local shops are 10 mins drive away, would recommend you take your main shopping with you and leave the local shops for last minute forgets. We did venture to Durness and was amazed by how close the local dear got to the main roads, them and the scenery were stunning. Thank you for the lit fire on arrival, it was nice to have a warm welcome after a long trip. Would we visit again, yes.

If you want a traditional bolthole in a beautiful remote corner of the Scottish Highlands, then Hillside is the place for you. Location for us was perfect, with stunning landscape, wildlife and the most idyllic beaches in the country (if not the world) the nearest being only about a 20min walk away (you can see it from the cottage). Even the drive to Hillside was amazing, through some truly dramatic landscapes. The cottage itself is one of the best we have stayed in, as we travel to Scotland quite a bit. Quaint, homely, warm and comfortable and with some greatly appreciated welcome treats on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would have loved to have stayed an additional week, but that would just have been too greedy. We will be back though.

Loved it. It is remote but just what was required. Very well equipped, warm, comfortable and clean. Was very impressed with the totally fenced in garden where the dog was able to run free. There is also a beautiful beach nearby visible from the cottage..... Loved it all.
