Kaptain’s Cabin epitomises exactly what you look for in a lodge holiday, a Scandinavian style detached lodge with its simple architecture lending itself beautifully to this pretty rural setting. The generous plot and position of Kaptain’s Cabin, at the top end of a site of similar lodges, provides a great base from which to explore the Northern Lakes and Pennines. The market town of Penrith, the Rheged Discovery Centre, Aira Force and Ullswater steamers/ferry service are all within a short drive. The market town of Keswick is 30 minutes away by car, as is the historic City of Carlisle, and you are within easy reach of Hadrian’s Wall, the Eden Valley and the Northern Pennines. Comfortable and well-presented, the lodge enjoys an open plan living space, which lends itself well to families and friends as a great spot to relax. The good sized decked area, equipped with a wooden table and six chairs, is accessible from the living area and is a great spot to capture the views and make the most of fair weather days. There are lawned gardens to the front and rear. The rear garden is equipped with a six seater picnic bench which gives fantastic panoramic views to distant mountains and acts as an additional spot to enjoy an al fresco bite to eat or perhaps an early morning coffee. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The cabin is in a really nice position at the end of the road looking over fields. The cabin had everything you could need and the en-suite in the main bedroom was great as well as a full size bath. Plenty of games and books if needed although we were blessed with lovely weather. A nice outside terrace with table and chairs was great. The whole cabin was so roomy and had lots of little features that made the stay even better. Just the large open cupboard just inside the front door is perfect for coats and boots - the whole place is well thought out. Only possible issue for some is the cabin is located at the top of a short stone drive that is steep and the outside grassed area is also on a steep bank. This could be difficult with small children on adults with mobility issues. However - we loved it!

Excellent home from home with great views, and very comfortable. This is our second time in Kaptain's Cabin and we've been to a few of the chalets in Glendowlin previously. Highly recommend this cabin.

Kaptains Cabin is perfect in more a or less perfect in every way. The cabin has absolutely everything you could possibly need but this brings me to my one and only issue. I think the owners could do to remove some things that won't be needed from the kitchen cupboards. This would free up some space for food. We visited over Christmas and brought a fair bit of food (as you do) but we struggled to put it all away out of sight. This was my one and only very small issue other than that the cabin is perfect and we will be visiting again and again. Can't wait.
