There is an unfenced pond and stream 20 yards away. Couples family bookings and holidaymakers only.\nSpectacular setting for wildlife this cottage is a gem with its own tranquil gardens and woodland on a hillside near Cardoness Castle with walks directly from the door. Little Boreland a late 18th century listed farmhouse is full of character and has caught the eye of many passing artists. It is an ideal holiday retreat for all ages from which to explore the beautiful unspoilt Fleet Valley National Scenic Area. It is within a short stroll of the conservation town of Gatehouse of Fleet with shops cafés restaurants local arts and crafts and the Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre.\n\nIn 1951 Glencairn Balfour Paul saw the house from the road and fell in love with it. His brother Ian a keen bird watcher and elder of the Kirk lived there for twenty years from 1990 following which other family members now maintain the house and its grounds through holiday lets. Many people have depicted the house and adjoining wood including early 20th century local artists such as A R Sturrock and A M Hotchkis. The Balfour Pauls found Little Boreland just magical.\n\nThere are sandy beaches and rocky coves along the coast while the hillier countryside is good for walking. Nearby the Galloway Forest Park known for its starlit dark skies has excellent cycle paths. There is so much to see and do with castles prehistoric sites and specialist gardens thanks to Galloways’ mild climate. Activities for children include the Cream o’ Galloway adventure playground with its celebrated ice cream or the Laggan outdoor centre with its zip wire. There are ample opportunities for fishing horse riding and golf. Nearby are many attractive towns Kirkcudbright the artists’ town offering boat trips and art and craft shops Castle Douglas Scotland’s food town with many specialist shops and nearby Threave Castle and Gardens Wigtown Scotland’s national book town and Creetown featuring the Gem Rock Museum. Shops pubs and restaurants ½ mile. \n" https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/925/840/925215.jpg 24853

The children were tucked up in the attic but were never still long enough to enjoy the magnificent views. The alcove by the rear entrance became a favourite to sit and watch the birds.

Beautiful house and grounds. Very quiet and peaceful with lots of wildlife. We saw red squirrels, deer and woodpeckers amongst other things. Well situated for Gatehouse itself which is a lovely town with excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants and as a base for exploring further.

lovely cottage , full of charm, good walks and bike rides from cottage (bikes available to use) forest walks nearby, all amenities in local village , beautiful food in the local Galloway cafe and brilliant meal in The Ship. Loved watching the birds every morning whilst having breakfast. Saw some deer and badgers on our walks behind cottage. Would definately go back to this cottage and area.

The house is charming and in a beautiful location. We found it very clean and it is well equipped throughout and we didn't have any difficulty in soon being very comfortable. There are two open fires to use if you want, we did, and they were lovely in the evening. The house is warm and cosy even if you don't want to light the fires. The owners have provided some very interesting information about the house and it's history and also about the local area, with places to visit and walks etc. Well worth reading! There is a pretty garden where a variety of birds can be seen, and a red squirrel was spotted too! We ( 2 couples) all enjoyed the walk to Gatehouse, which is about 10 minutes away, and has a well-stocked Spar supermarket for everyday needs. There are several places to eat and drink in the village, we didn't try them all but enjoyed the Masonic Arms pub both for drinks and food. There is much to see in the area and we hope to return to Little Boreland to explore further! Highly recommended.
