Assisted wheelchair users can be accommodated on the ground floor. This traditional farmhouse in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just one of Alston’s many attributes. Although you are bound to be cosy and comfortable in the property this area is much too picturesque to ignore. A great way to take in the Pennine scenery and appreciate the South Tyne Valleys is to hop aboard one of the steam trains and take a ride through the nature filled landscapes. \n\nA must do for visitors to this area is a visit to the iconic Hadrian’s Wall and its forts. There is so much history to absorb here and adults in the party may be interested by the connection to Game of Thrones.\n\nCyclists will relish the challenge of the local roads and for walkers Alston is on the Pennine Way. The compact city of Carlisle is a little further afield at 30 miles but there is plenty for all ages upon arrival including a castle cathedral and museum as well as plenty of shops and restaurants. If you want to guarantee your family a fantastic fun-filled day then head to Beamish where you will step back in time at the open air museum.     Decent quality property with ample space for a group of 17, including for cooking and dining. Excellent spacious garden. Lovely location, adequate shopping and pubs with grub nearby. Great walks too.

    We enjoyed a lovely weekend at Mark Close Farmhouse. It was a birthday celebration with 16 adults and 5 children and the cottage catered for every age group perfectly. Lovely enclosed garden, safe for children and dogs and a beautiful setting. Very comfortable rooms and the kitchen was excellently equipped. Thank you for our stay, it was the perfect getaway.
