The Meadow Barn is a homely, modern bungalow in the village of Braithwaite—an ideal base to enjoy the Lake District while staying in quiet countryside. A spacious hall opens to a bright triple-aspect living/dining room with a wood-burning stove and a large table, with easy access to the well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen features local green-slate worktops, full-size fridge and freezer, dishwasher, ceramic hob and oven, plus a breakfast bar; a utility cupboard houses a washer, dryer and airing rack.
Beyond the kitchen, a sunny garden room opens via double doors to the patio with views over the garden to the fells—perfect for morning coffee and planning the day. High-speed broadband is available.
There are three light, airy bedrooms with ample storage. The master has a king-size bed, wall-mounted TV and a modern en-suite with shower, basin and WC. The second bedroom has zip-link twins usually made up as a king (twin setup on request). The third bedroom has a full-size single. The family bathroom is fully tiled with a bath and mains shower over, basin and WC.
Outside, the generous, sunny garden offers lovely fell views, planters and borders, and a large patio accessed from the living room or sun room, with two sets of outdoor tables and chairs for al fresco dining. Chaplin’s Beck, a natural stream that sometimes attracts ducks, runs through the garden, giving the house its name. Please note the garden is not enclosed from the road or the stream; children must be closely supervised.
Braithwaite has a village shop, tea room, welcoming pubs and superb valley walks from the door. Keswick is just 2 miles away with cafés, independent shops and delis. Explore the north-western Lakes: Braithwaite sits at the foot of Newlands Valley and is a 15-minute drive from the Buttermere Valley. Popular hikes include Grisedale Pike and the Coledale Horseshoe; Bassenthwaite Lake, a known osprey nesting site, is also within easy reach.
Booking terms: no pets. Maximum of one infant per booking; highchair and travel cot available on request at time of booking.
