No smoking.\n This spacious semi-detached holiday cottage is situated only 500 yards level walking distance from the bustling market town of Bakewell. A large bay window in the living room overlooks the lawned garden to the front whilst the dining room has views over the rear garden and parking area. A perfect location from which to explore the Peak District with the Spa town of Buxton 12 miles and the delightful town of Matlock 13 miles. Chatsworth House complete with farmyard adventure park for the children and Haddon Hall are close by each making an excellent days outing. Horse riding nearby. Ideal for golfers.     Melville is a nice family house perfectly located for Bakewell town centre (5 minute walk) with riverside walks/seats even closer. Public transport is handy: the bus service to Matlock and Derby in one direction and Buxton in the other stops right outside. Unfortunately, proximity to the A6, which is very busy throughout the night and the adjacent Co-op garage/supermarket, where deliveries take place continually from around 3:30am, can mean interrupted sleep. Not much that can be done about this but visitors do need to be aware. There are lots of places to eat/drink in Bakewell and beyond. Cooking at home is not so easy however as, although the kitchen is well equipped with pots and pans and more than enough crockery/cutlery/glassware, the electric cooker itself is very old fashioned - the numbers had even worn off some of the dials making life difficult for someone used to cooking only with gas. Some of the furniture has seen better days but the living room is comfortable and the 'old fashioned' feel of the house is charmingly nostalgic. The garden at the back of the house is nice and quiet.

    Had a great holiday. House exceeded our expectations everything one could require and it's location is perfect. Lovely walk into town by the river. Bit of noise from the filling station nextdoor but not a problem.

    Melville is a large, comfortable, clean and fully-equipped cottage right in the heart of Bakewell. We stayed with our two children aged 3 and 5. The cottage is very safe and ideally set up for young children. It has a brand new TV and 3 piece suite in the living room, extremely comfortable beds, and a lovely bath for a long soak in the tub. Backing onto the River Wye, you can walk along the river or explore Bakewell's museum, shops and cafes right from the back door. The area is an absolutely fantastic base in the Peak District with many attractions just 5 mins drive away. For example lunch at Haddon Station Cafe and a walk or hire bikes along the Monsal Trail. Visit the stunning Haddon Hall. Many beautiful river or forest walks in and around Monsal Dale. Within around 15 mins drive you can get to lots of caves, beautiful villages, Hathersage outdoor swimming pool, and of course Chatsworth is a must for any visit.
