Committed ramblers to fair weather walkers can enjoy walks around the streets, sampling homemade local delights and neighbouring villages such as Ashford-in-the-Water and Rowsley, or through the spectacular limestone dales of the Monsal Trail. Bakewell itself has the River Wye running through the centre, providing opportunities for relaxing by the beautiful waterside setting, or enjoying wonderful riverside walks. It is a popular base for tourists wanting to explore the area, and is home to a multitude of historic buildings, courtyards and independent shops and cafès. As a small market town, Bakewells market day is every Monday, with an additional farmers market held on the last Saturday of the month. Other key annual events include the popular Bakewell Show, Well Dressings, Carnival Week, Bakewell Arts Festival and the Bakewell Music Festival.
