This is a charming cottage with a lovely garden in a beautiful rural location. It's very well equipped and clearly much loved by the owners. The landscape is ancient and stunning. There's also a beautiful old church where you can buy delicious homemade jam and play ping pong. It's the very best of Northumberland.

Had a fabulous stay at Pennywells - great value for money , loved the garden to come home to after exploring. Slightly rambling and mismatching which suited us well as a family. Rothbury really close for stores and great local walks - would definitely come back, thankyou

We loved this cottage. Although it was June, the weather was cold when we arrived, but the storage heaters had been turned on making the cottage lovely and warm. The garden is idyllic, a good size, beautifully kept, and lovely views. It is in a very peaceful location, which is not too far from Rothbury where the nearest shops are. In winter it might feel a little too remote. The cottage is full of character, nice big sofas and a large kitchen. Yes, it is a bit dark, but that's because it's an original old building, built to withstand severe weather, so the windows are small. No WiFi, and very limited phone signal, but the TV works well.

This is a great cottage. It is a traditional style and fitted out accordingly. Everything is comfortable; the gardens are delightful. I knew in advance there were no amenities in the village so this wasn’t an issue for me. I spent a great week walking in the surrounding hills.

Great cottage filled with original features and charm. A large garden which is very safe for children and dogs. There’s a door into kitchen from the garden and you park in the back garden so it’s ideal for children and dogs. The kitchen has a dishwasher and large table and chairs. Lovely sitting room with open fire and two settees. Off this room is a utility/boot room and bathroom. Two large bedrooms upstairs with window seats and comfy double beds plus a single in each. Plenty storage space. The whole ambience is so relaxing and we had a great time. No shops within walking distance so take some essentials with you. Nearby village and Rothbury will have everything you need. Rothbury is lovely and the food at The Turks Head is great. About 20 miles to the coast so easy base to explore from.

Loved the cottage. My ancestors lived there in the 1700's so it was fabulous to experience time spent there and visit the beautiful surrounding countryside. We would recommend Pennywells and hope to visit again before too long.

A delightful cosy cottage in beautiful rural countryside. Very comfortable bed and warm cosy living room with possibly the best wood burner we’ve ever used. The only slight downside for me was it was a bit dark downstairs. Small windows in kitchen and living room. Upstairs electric toilet was a bit iffy at times too. Overall a thoroughly comfortable and well equipped cottage. The gardens were stunning too. Epic views all round.
