The cottage is just yards from the main harbour and small sandy family friendly beach. Portland Cottage is very much a traditional family home comfortably furnished and without the frills of contemporary décor and furnishings. The cottage will appeal to guests looking for a spacious homely traditional holiday property and has the added advantage of private parking which is unusual in Mousehole.\nStroll to the village shops art galleries cafés quality bistro restaurant and the pub on the quayside serving great local ales and food. Mousehole is like stepping back in time with its quaint harbour and fishing boats making it a truly magical experience. The village is vibrant all year round with the traditional summer holiday visitors and it is equally appealing in the winter when guests love to watch the stormy seas and flock to see the famous Christmas lights and partake in the seasonal festivities. The owner’s father founded the Mousehole illuminations and every year they come on the week before Christmas.\nThe quaint working fishing harbour of Newlyn is close by with the Newlyn School of Art and Art Gallery. The busy town of Penzance has a convenient railway station which provides great access to numerous coastal stations including the scenic coastal train service to St Ives Newquay and Falmouth. St Michaels Mount is open daily to the public and can be reached on foot by causeway at low tide or by a small ferry boat at high tide. Beach 50 yards. Shop pub and restaurant 500 yards. \n " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/106/840/10689868.jpg UKC2397

Lovely comfortable cottage. Would have been helpful to have instructions for appliances and central heating in a more obvious place. Lock on downstairs bathroom would've been appreciated.

It is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful village with a desperate need for some TLC. Both the front doors were almost unusable. The heating, when it worked needed to have the windows open to control the heat. The key box was broken. The mattress on one of the beds was impossible to use. However, the rest of the place was perfect, a well appointed kitchen, three good sized bedrooms, with two good beds.

Although a good sized property for up to 6 people, the overall look is dowdy and tired for today’s expectations. Apart from lounge carpet, all other carpets were stained. A disappointing cottage when compared to others viewed in the village. The 2 bathrooms are in need of complete refurbishment and were not overly clean. There was no window blind in upstairs bathroom. Bedrooms were gloomy and old fashioned - fitted wardrobes were awful and looked dirty. Fitted bottom bed sheet had long dirty mark on it that should have been noticed and removed when bed made up. Toilet flush handles loose and need adjustment. Kitchen and coffee tables swayed when touched and did not feel safe to move. Some ceiling light fittings did not work even when bulbs replaced, so lighting not as bright as could have been. Throws and cushions in need of washing. Snail slime trail on carpet behind sofa! Some effort had been made though with ornaments and fresh flowers. This would be such a lovely property to rent once a substantial sum had been invested in it.

Spacious cottage, off road easy parking, very clean. However despite comment over a year ago regarding the lack of information no change. Try playing hunt the distribution (fuse) board when the lighting circuit trips- answer behind a picture halfway up the stairs!. No information regarding recycling (choice of wheelie bins) or collection day. We too what we could to Sainsburys on our way home. very dated décor really needs some money spending to justify being a "holiday rental", amazed that the lack of information is acceptable to the letting agents.

We booked requiring an enclosed garden for our dog. The garden couldn't be secured as the gate was rusted open and wouldn't move, plus you couldn't get the car on drive and close gate anyway. Generally needs updating and sprucing up. Lovely position though.

Lovely cottage in a great position, however quite a few issues with it as it appears to have been inherited and just left as it was ( still a couple of family photos on the walls ). Carpet in the bathroom which did start to smell somewhat due to getting damp also ground in mould and dirt around the shower upstairs, carpet in the kitchen again past it's sell by date and quite dirty ( not that any amount of cleaning could change that, it just needs changing ! ). The downstairs bathroom didn't have any hot water for most of the week and the shower didn't work, although apparently that's being replaced this week. Not a problem for 2 of us however if 6 people had to share 1 bathroom ... Went to use the washing machine and sprung a leak which was going straight onto an electrical outlet ! Found the isolating valve which was broke and took a while to find the stopcock ( which is in the kitchen here by the way ) Couldn't switch of the electrics as no idea where the fuseboard was ( this is behind a picture on the stairs hidden in the wall ). All of this we found out from Lesley as we had to call her out, couldn't fault her or her team who quickly and efficently fixed the problems even though it was a sunday evening. No welcome pack as we have come to expect when stopping in cottages booked through this site and that would of helped with the problems we experienced. Parking space a bonus but be aware it's quite tight, have a vw passat estate that just fit, did some damage to bumper reversing off drive as it's uphill and there's a dip as you come off the drive. All in all very dated cottage which desparatley needs an update especially for the prices been charged in this day and age.

A spacious granite cottage with an annex suitable for 'granny' 3 minutes walk from the sandy harbour beach and with a driveway to park the car. The downside is that the bathrooms (renovated ? 1970s) are in need of updating & various small niggles: windows painted shut & unable to be opened, curtains in the annex bedroom need thick linings & carpet there very tatty & dirty and the interior door from the porch was jammed & needs re-hanging. The beds could also do with a mattress topper. In spite of this it was perfect for our needs (& dog) and we would consider staying again if the renovations were done. The housekeeper, Lesley, was very helpful.

Portland cottage is in a very lovely spot. The cottage is a good size and comfortable for six people with plenty of utensils and crockery to use, frying pans had seen better days unfortunately, we took our own! The sink doesn’t actually fit in it’s recess and moves and has a gap along the front edge. There are several areas within the property that also need updating as sadly. Ground floor, Bedroom unable to open sash windows as it’s painted shut. Bathroom is in need of updating and is a bit smelly, dampish mould. Upper floor, both bedrooms the wardrobe tracks and runners have seen better days, the mattress in the smaller bedroom needs replacing and the room smells of damp. The bathroom also needs a little love and care. A real bonus with onsite parking, (only small to slightly bigger than small though!!!!) there is a steel gate that stays ajar (rusted) it’s really in the way whilst parking, by the looks it hasn’t been used as a gate for a couple of decades. Total removal would be the best way forward. All in all we had a good week. Thank you.

Great location and rare parking space. House was very cosy and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Some instructions for househokd gadgets and information eg doctors etc wouldn't go amiss. Housekeeper was very helpful and quickly resolved any issues that we had.
