This semi-detached cottage is under half an hour from the glorious Northumbrian coast and Holy Island, and a mile from the tiny village of Milfield in the heart of rural Northumberland. Sandyhouse Cottage is very comfortable and well-furnished, has generous surrounding gardens and looks onto the Cheviot Hills, within the Northumberland National Park. The living room is cosy and inviting, and the kitchen is particularly well finished. Upstairs, the attractive bedrooms have a great view of Yeavering Bell, where there are the remains of the largest Iron Age hill fort in the area, which had more than 100 round houses.

Milfield, 1 mile, has a good pub, a café and local shop, while Wooler, 7 miles away, has good local shops and services. The gliding club in Milfield offers a chance to experience gliding with a qualified instructor. St Cuthbert’s way walking route and the Pennine Way National Cycle Route 68 are both close by. There are sea and river trips from Berwick harbour, and to the Farne Islands from Seahouses. Don’t miss the castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh and the dramatic, ruined Dunstanburgh, or wonderful sandy beaches, the closest being Goswick where there is also a fine links golf course. Take the train to Edinburgh or Newcastle, under an hour either way, from the walled border town of Berwick-on-Tweed, 15 miles, for a fun day in the city. Beach 18½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
