Scholten Lodge had everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday, It was very well equipped and Frank and Sue were friendly host. Nothing was too much trouble, we had a slight problem with the shower and Frank sorted it promptly and efficiently. The location is ideal for easy access to most parts of Cornwall and we had a lovely week at Scolten Lodge.

We were looking for a property to spend a week away in Cornwall over the New Year's celebrations. We are two adults with a dog. Getting there:- Arriving from the direction of the A30 one drives through the town of Roche. Along the high street are a few shops together with a very nice Fish and Chip Shop, Tresbonney? The food is freshly cooked which means one might have to wait for their dinner. The only pub we found that was open was The Rock a 16th Century building, if memory serves, which sells meals and is very dog friendly. The Rock sits on a small round about. Driving straight across the round about you enter a built up area which quickly disappears and one then finds themselves on a country road. The road to Scholten Lodge is on the right, it is not marked other than by a gap in the grass verge. One then drives down what is basically an unmade road with the odd pothole thrown in. Scholten Lodge is the second house on the left once you have passed the fenced off area where assorted buses and coaches are parked. We arrived on the due date and we were met by Frank the owner of the property. It is fair to say we never really met Sue during our stay. I think this was because Sue was busy doing other things, but no matter Frank greeted us and and after handing over the keys and showing us the Lodge left us to our own devices. It is fair to say that when we were inside the Lodge, it was nothing like we had imagined. I am not too sure that the term Lodge aptly fits the description of the property. In short it resembled for want of a better word I am sorry to say a bed sit. A well equipped bed sit with kitchen, bathroom with an excellent shower, washbasin and toilet. There was ample hot (very) water. The kitchen was, as to be expected quite small, two people in the same area preparing food was a No, No. The location was fine but one would need transport to get anywhere. Even considering a walk to the pub could be considered a tad fraught as one would find themselves walking down unlit paths and roads with no pavements with fast moving traffic passing by. The Lodge sits opposite a working farm with cattle. If you have a hound exercising it is a bit weary. The Lodge owners have horses. One can use the paddock immediately opposite the Lodge but letting Fido off the lead is not really an option especially if there are Horse(s) cantering about. I did find a field which lies next to the paddock and was invited to run my dog there, however the farmer warned that on occasions cattle could be grazing. If you are looking for a small getaway location this might suit, of course you will need your own transport or revert to public transport of which I cannot comment. Personally I/we would have preferred a larger property. We both found the lack of space a tad irritating. if one wanted to go to bed and the other wanted to stay up and say watch the Tv read a book whatever this might cause a bit of friction, there being no extra space one can retreat to.
