    > The Gatehouse at Beckfoot Hall is a deceptively spacious, Grade II listed property, lovingly renovated and retaining its period charm. Situated near the traditional market town of Kirkby Stephen, the house is surrounded by excellent walking and cycling country, with Kirkby Stephen being a popular stop off point on the Coast to Coast walk. There is also easy access to the Pennine Way, fishing on the nearby River Eden, golf, pony trekking and historic castles in the area. This wonderful location is within an easy, scenic drive of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales and the famous Settle/Carlisle Railway. Within a 40-minute drive, visitors can explore Ullswater and the Eastern Lakes, Swaledale, Wensleydale and the lesser known Teesdale, along with the popular towns of Keswick, Kendal, Sedbergh, Barnard Castle and Hawes. Tan Hill, the highest pub in Britain, is also a short, pretty drive away. A wide selection of shops, pubs and restaurants are found in Kirkby Stephen 1½ miles away.

The Gatehouse has been thoughtfully and tastefully renovated, equipped and decorated. It is a fitting tribute to the discreet and personal attention shown by the owners to their guests. A perfect, rural location yet just a couple of minutes drive from Kirkby Stephen and in less than an hour the AONBs - Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines and Lake District and not forgetting Co. Durham. The Gatehouse is surrounded by stunning, ever-changing with the weather, scenery, but also a myriad of wildlife to include woodpeckers, brown hares and red squirrels. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

We are doing the coast to coast in easy stages and kirkby steven was an ideal base point for our four walks from shap to reeth. Cottage was ideally situated. Weather excellent and a good time was had.

Lovely cottage, beautiful views and surroundings. A wonderful place to chill and relax after our son's wedding at the Eden Barn. The scones and jam were great and the woodpecker and red squirrel outside the lounge window was a bonus!

Wonderful and cosy house. Perfect for what we needed. The home baked cake left for us by the owner was a lovely added extra too.
