Situated near the traditional market town of Kirkby Stephen the house is surrounded by excellent walking and cycling country with Kirkby Stephen being a popular stop off point on the Coast to Coast walk. There is also easy access to the Pennine Way fishing on the nearby River Eden golf pony trekking and historic castles in the area. This wonderful location is within an easy scenic drive of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales and the famous SettleCarlisle Railway. Within a 40-minute drive visitors can explore Ullswater and the Eastern Lakes Swaledale Wensleydale and the lesser known Teesdale along with the popular towns of Keswick Kendal Sedbergh Barnard Castle and Hawes. Tan Hill the highest pub in Britain is also a short pretty drive away. A wide selection of shops pubs and restaurants are found in Kirkby Stephen 1½ miles away. \n " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/126/840/1264343.jpg UKC137

A really well equipped and located cottage. The best cottage for countryside wildlife we have ever stayed in. The owners top up the bird feeders every day which meant that we saw flocks of birds all day every day. Added to that red squirrels, bats, hedgehogs, hares and parrots made this a wonderful country break for us city types. The cottage is located in a very peaceful location but within very easy distance of a market town. Also well placed for trips to both the Lake District and the wonderful Yorkshire Dales. Lovely hosts, on hand if required but happy to leave us in piece if required.

We had a great stay at the Gatehouse. It was an ideal change of scenery after the last three months of lockdown and was perfectly clean and cosy. The location was ideal for both the Lakes & the Dales. The fresh flowers and cake on arrival were a lovely and unexpected extra touch too. Fiona was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend.

A lovely property in a beautiful area. Great views from the windows, complimented by bird feeders and squirrel feeders in the surrounding trees. Great walking within a short drive or easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire just a little farther afield. A lovely relaxing week which we hope to repeat in the future! Thank you to the owner for helping us feel safe and relaxed.

A truly delightful place, the Gatehouse as a building stands out as an excellent example of sensitive renovation, the location is spot on with a lovely outlook all around, it feels remote but is only 5 minutes drive from local amenities. From the wood burner in the lounge to the luxury bedding and the thoughtful touches throughout the property, the owners made every effort to make our stay enjoyable. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Gatehouse as a great holiday experience for anyone seeking a restful and peaceful location.

Cosy cottage in a great location for exploring Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales. It was a relaxing place to come back to after a long day’s walking on the fells. The shower was superb along with the under floor heating. The freshly baked biscuits and fresh flowers on our arrival from the owner were a special touch. We will be back.
