We had a splendid time at the Old Post Office. The cottage itself is very charming, very old and very beautiful. It is quite large so that all members of the family can find their favourits spot. It is well equipped and we wouldn't have minded to have more rainy days in order to have more time for reading or browsing the books on the village history. The garden is charming, it looks lovely and it is great to sit outside and listen to the various birds. The surrounding is rural and we loved to discover it walking. We knew that Thomas Hardy's cottage is in walking distance, but we didn't know that his old school house is just the house opposite, great for all Hardy fans. Stinsford and the Kingston Maurward Estate with the animal farm and splendid gardens are just 10 mins walking - we could have spent the two weeks just in the near surrounding ... However, the countryside and especially the coast are beautiful and wild, the towns and villages are pictoresque, there are some really nice beaches, some really lonely and wild places, always amazing views and a lovely coffeeshop nearbye. In a nutshell: we had lovely two weeks, we did not imagine the cottage and location to be so very beautiful and we are already thinking of going again :)

We had a lovely family holiday staying at The Old Postoffice in Lower Bockhampton. It is a very characterful house, decorated in an eclectic style, but with everything you need - appliances, wifi, comfy beds etc. It was extremely peaceful and in a great location - a tiny village, but just 5 minutes into Dorchester and 15 to the beaches of Dorset. Highly recommended.

We enjoy de stay very much. A lovely cottage and cosy garden. The beds are very good and de livingroom also cosy and comforteble. (watch out for the carpets on the floor, you can fall over it) The claenliness could be better. A lot of dust and de refrigerater was not good. The freezer was full of ice. We must defrost it. Parkingplace is to small voor modern cars. You must park on the road.

It's a house of two halves. The old part of the cottage is lovely but the extension at the back (the kitchen and bathroom) is badly in need of updating, and we found them quite shabby and not very clean. We actually had to clean the loo on arrival. Of course there will be cobwebs in such an old house but we did feel the kitchen in particular was depressing. As we visited in January we did not have the benefit of the garden, which looked pretty. A couple of other points: the parking area is very difficult to get into with a large car, limited by steel railings and a wall. The only bathroom is downstairs (which we knew before we went) and that was a bit tricky to get to in the night. We felt that if only the locked bedroom upstairs could be a bathroom, that would greatly improve the comfort of the house. About local amenities - there aren't any except the excellent restaurant at Yalbury Cottage just up the road.

Lovely cottage where we appreciated the charm and character. Back garden had a woodpecker and a peregrine as regular visitors. Owners were very quick to respond to a minor issue. Kitchen was well stocked with implements so you could cook and eat properly (often cottages seem to ration you to one fork, knife and plate each). Good country side and walks, near Hardy's Cottage and it gets a mention in one of his poems.

Picturesque thatched property within walking distance of Hardy`s Cottage and a longer but manageable walk beside the river into Dorchester. If you are not a walker you will need to use a car as there are no shops and no bus service in close proximity. There is however a restaurant virtually next door if you want to eat out and enjoy a drink.

The cottage was nice but needed a really good dusting as there were very many cobwebs. The kettle badly needed descaling. However the bedlinen was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was quite cold unless you had the heating on but warmed nicely once it was on.
