This was a perfect base for me visiting family who live locally. Would suit one person or a couple. Roman Wall and the coast both easily accessible aswell as Newcastle .

Lovely holiday cottage, really quiet location.

We were the first people in after lockdown and the cottage was spotless. There was a slight smell of damp in the kitchen but that went off as the week went on so this may well be because the cottage was being aired and lived in after being unused for so long. The seat cushions on the sofa could do to be renewed as they are somewhat flat and solid but this could be is being a bit picky. There is no shop in the village but that didn't bother us in the slightest, and the pizzas from the restaurant - they do takeaway - were delicious. We had our dog with us and the walking straight from the door was brilliant with loads of footpaths to choose from. The Tyne Valley is a beautiful spot for a holiday and we would definitely be back to explore further. We would definitely recommend the Smithy to stay in, we had a great time.

A super cottage. In a lovely location. Kate and Phil very welcoming and helpful.

A little gem! One-bedroom cottages are relatively uncommon but where they can be found they are less likely to disappoint than 2+ properties and here is no exception. This conversion is quite unusual - most of it (bedroom, lounge, bathroom) upstairs and downstairs just the kitchen/ diner - but it is perfectly proportioned, design/ layout is well-balanced, harmonious and contemporary. Despite its size it has a light, open feel - especially upstairs - and might even feel so without the enhancement of the lovely Velux windows (3, I think). Well-equipped, easy to heat etc.. cosy and homely. Location may not have the wow factor but it does grow on you. Ovington village - or atleast the old part where the cottage is - is characterful with good views across the surrounding countryside. It is safe and quiet and country walks lead more or less from the front door, just about making up for the absence of a garden. We had our 2 little dogs with us and it wasn't a problem.
