This southwest corner of Scotland often gets overlooked by tourists, yet it boasts 300 miles of coastlines with sandy bays, dense forests, an abundance of wildlife, and some of the darkest skies in the UK. The area offers something for everyone, whether you want an action-packed break enjoying mountain biking in forests or down quite country lanes, golfing, water sports, canoeing or sailing, fishing, shooting or simply time to kick back and relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside with its forests, lochs and wildlife or spending the days exploring the area with its quaint little towns, castles, abbeys, and gardens. There are plenty of activities for children including Dalscone, Mabie Farm Park and the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory to name only a few. Rockcliffe and Kippford can easily be reached via an approximate ½ hour walk on the forest tracks to the side of the lodge where you can enjoy a meal or drink in the local pubs overlooking the waterfront. Nearby Colvend has a small village shop with a wider variety of amenities in Dalbeattie, 4 miles.
