These two semi-detached holiday cottages are situated approximately 1 mile off the public road up a private drive next to the owners’ home and small working farm in a very quiet peaceful location which is ideal for secluded retreats or as a central touring base to explore Dumfries Galloway. The cottages are similar in style and design and Myrtle Cottage ref 28177 is a restored barn conversion consisting of a traditional granite byre with an architect designed larch clad extension featuring a welcoming woodburner. They are located near the Solway Coast and close to the world-class ‘7 Stanes’ mountain bike facility at nearby Dalbeattie 10 minutes’ drive. Also in the vicinity is the Galloway Forest Park which is one of just a handful of ‘Dark Sky Parks’ in the western world in recognition of spectacular sightings of the starry skies it affords. The region’s capital Dumfries is a 25 minute drive and is known for its links with Robert Burns visitors may explore his house sample a dram in Burns’ favourite hostelry - The Globe Inn or find out more about him at the Robert Burns Centre. Other nearby areas of interest are Colvend Golf Course and Southerness Golf Course both 10 minutes away and horse riding facilities at Barend Riding School at Sandyhills just 5 minutes’ drive and fishing. Along the coast discover unspoilt villages dramatic coastlines sandy beaches and rocky coves. There is wildlife in abundance with an RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve nearby. Whitecroft itself has an abundance of wildlife such as roe deer red squirrels and plentiful birdlife including the majestic red kite. During times of agricultural activity lambing shearing hay making feeding calves the owners are more than happy for visitors to view or even have a try. This can be arranged during your stay. In addition to being an ideal venue for a traditional springsummer break the cottages make for a perfect cosy autumnwinter break. Constructed and insulated to the highest standards with the benefit of a technologically advanced biomass boiler you can enjoy the added bonus of central heating 365 days a year meaning whatever the weather you’re guaranteed to be warm and cosy for no additional cost. Cosy, well-furnished cottage in really peaceful surroundings. Only ten minutes drive from nearest shops in Dalbeattie, which is a meeting point for several major roads so it's possible to go north, south, east or west throughout Dumfries & Gallloway according to where the weather will be best. Close to Galloway Forest for those who are able to walk, but lots of other gardens and outdoor attractions for those less energetic, plus beaches for simple seaside enjoyment. Local people so friendly and helpful. Myrtle Cottage so well equipped, with satellite TV, DVD player and discs, and a full bookcase that, even if weather had kept us in, we could've relaxed in comfort and 'chilled' without boredom. Wish we had discovered this location before, as we would've made repeat visits.

The cottage was ideal for us. It was much larger than expected. Being in the countryside ( and very close to beach and towns ) it gave us what we wanted, a lovely quiet relaxing week. Loved it and will definitely be going back. I highly recommend Myrtle Cottage.

What a fabulous place! Very friendly hosts that make you feel welcome without disturbing privacy. The farm is really peaceful- the view from the large garden is stunning! The garden was enclosed and safe for our small puppy who really appreciated such a great space to play. Lovely welcome basket - the best we’ve ever had - and encouraged us to shop more locally too which we really enjoyed. The cottage has everything you’d need and a great layout. Underfloor heating was MARVELLOUS- a toastie place on the chilliest of days. The local area is stunning, great for wildlife and walking. We are missing the tranquility and nighttime star gazing already! Thanks so much for having us, I’m sure we will be back!

Joanne and Daniel were very welcoming hosts and delivered a welcoming basket on arrival. The cottage was very well appointed and had all the modern appliances. The only thing which could be added would be another seat in the living area. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to others

The owners are lovely people, the cottage is more suited to people with dogs who don't mind dog hair, dust & the farm dog roaming free.

The cottage was well equipped, clean and cosy. The log fire was wonderful but it wasn't needed for the heat as the cottage was warm anyway. There are great views from the living room windows. If you want a quiet get away this is the place for it. Loads of walking nearby in the Dalbeattie woods and 7 Stanes parks, great for the dog and mountain biking for the kids. Galloway is a beautiful place to visit and all of the nearby towns and villages had individual shops which was a surprise. A thriving community area and the people were really friendly. If you like watching the sky at night it is superb. We will be back.
