• About Bosun’s Cottage

Sea views Enjoying an unrivalled position and stunning views over the sea, harbour entrance and beach, this award-winning cottage lies at the very eastern edge of Whitby yet only a 300-yard walk down cobbled streets to the harbour bridge. Sensitively rebuilt from a former old smoke house it offers a well designed spacious interior, double glazing and cosy heating. An ideal location whatever the season – in summer, for the beach just 100 yards from the door, and in winter, for the exhilarating drama of crashing waves and spectacular views. A traditional fishing town with a maritime heritage, Whitby boasts the Captain Cook Museum, craft and antique shops, galleries, jewellers selling the famous Whitby Jet, tea rooms, gourmet fish restaurants, pubs galore and a host of other attractions. Extensive walking can be enjoyed locally on the Cleveland Way cliffs top paths or surrounding moorlands whose pretty villages are also a delight to explore.

Lovely cottage with great views, comfortable beds and good kitchen equipment, all in all a good place to stay, just a shame we had to leave a day early due to my husbands health, only down side the boiler stopped working on Saturday, I did leave a message on our return home.

Bosuns cottage was spacious, location ok but no outside space and the access to the cottage difficult up the narrow road. The cottage was noisy inside due to the ill fitting internal doors with rubbish latches. The floors where very noisy especially the ground floor with the cheap laminate on it. There was obviously little or no sound insulation between the floors, terrible if you are trying to be quiet with young children in bed. Bathrooms needed updated and the heating/hot water had a mind of its own. Fire blanket for the stove not really accessible above the fridge freezer and the kitchen although spacious was not pleasant to work in. Not value for money and would never stay here again. Thankful that we were only three adults and 2 young children.

An enjoyable week with the extended family despite poor weather at the start. The house is good but could do with some TLC by those coming in to check it as some bulbs and lights not working and the boiler can stop providing hot water when it feels like it! Need checking out. But overall a good location though the sat nav takes you past Whitby Abbey down an impossibly steep lane which we had to reverse out of so good to point this out.

This is the second time we have stayed at Bosun's Cottage and, again, had a fantastic time. The view from the bedrooms is fabulous. Whitby out of season is simply perfect! Spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfortable.

We had a fantastic break over half term. Bosun's cottage was very warm and cosy, the beds really comfy and the sea views are amazing.

Second visit to this beautiful cottage and hopefully not the last! Love everything about it. Great location and cottage immaculate. Can't wait to go again. Just perfect in every way.

Lovely comfortable cottage in a great location. The parking could be an issue if visitors have a bigger than average car or are not overly confident drivers due to a narrow archway & tight turning area. On departure the access via cooks cottage wasn't possible so this would have made access for the next holiday makers even more difficult.

We enjoyed our stay, a lovely cottage with fabulous views. Not the best weather for us..but sea was great to watch from the windows and Whitby is always a great place to visit even when it's blowing a gale. Plenty of stuff to do if you like games/jigsaws etc and some nice places to eat in town.

Lovely cottage in a perfect setting, access and parking rather tight and fire was only a gas fire not a log burner which we had particularly searched for when booking, but all in all a great place to stay would definitely recommend .

The lounge carpet did not appear to have been hoovered effectively nor the master bedroom There was minimal instruction in the cottage The cottage is in a fantastic setting but the price reflects this

Location is second to none and cottage itself is very comfortable. There's no wifi and parking is a bit tight, but that said we wanted a weeks get away from the rat race and didn't need the car all week as there's so much to do locally.

Great location. Cottage well equipped and very comfortable. One of the best beds I have ever slept in. Getting cars to and from the cottage can be difficult on very narrow crowded streets but this is more than compensated by the location. All in all a wonderful short term break.

Location of cottage very good. Comfort good and views from the cottage are wonderful. Equipment in the cottage could do with an update, one tea towel in the kitchen was poor and some towels were very thin, lack of a towel/soap in the downstairs cloakroom. Overall the holiday cottage was excellent for 4 adults and 3 children. Will book again.
