Oaklea Retreat is hidden away on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road and horses clopping along the lane. Birdsong fills the air dawn and dusk: at night you can hear owls. Treetops is a detached annex with a treehouse balcony adjacent to the house - the garden is a third of an acre backing onto the fields - and the huts (Meadowsweet and Heartsease) are at the far end of the garden. There are lots of public footpaths meandering through fields to the woods. Sometimes there are sheep in the field behind and cows with calves in the field beyond depending on the season. There’s a farmer with big machinery in use sometimes so it’s more reliably peaceful at weekends.
Meadowsweet is a wonderful space for getting away from it all. To explore, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature, to heal, write, create music or art, or to study. It’s the perfect place to wind down and de-stress. There is an enhanced cleaning programme in place to ensure everyone’s safety including running an ozone generator between stays. Also available directly with the owner are Reiki energy healing treatments, aromatherapy massages and reflexology. Treatments need to be pre-booked directly.
Should you wish to venture outside of Oaklea Retreat there is an abundance of activities and places to visit for everyone. The local village of Herstmonceux offers great pubs and restaurants along with Herstmonceux Castle and the Royal Observatory Centre.
You can visit Batemans, the home of Rudyard Kipling, and Battle Abbey, the site of The Battle of Hastings, all within a short drive. As well as exploring the local countryside, The Cuckoo Trail provides the perfect place for cyclists and ramblers to explore. Should you prefer a trip to the coast then Pevensey Bay is only a 15-minute drive away, with larger towns such as Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne either side of this providing retail therapy, theatre trips and the usual seaside attractions.
