Formed around 600 million years ago from some of the oldest rocks in England, the Malvern Hills is a beautiful natural area that encompasses the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and a small part of Gloucestershire. Dominated by dramatic ridges and hilltops, this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty famously inspired the composer Sir Edward Elgar. The Malvern Hills are also renowned for their pure spring water, thanks to the natural springs that are dotted around the landscape, such as St. Ann's Well and Holy Well. For a taste of local history and culture, explore the Iron Age hillfort of British Camp or the impressive medieval church of Great Malvern Priory. Take yourself on a walk around Great Malvern, a charming Victorian spa town at the foot of the Malvern Hills. Great Malvern is a real cultural hub, with a thriving arts and music scene that offers an exciting calendar of events and festivals throughout the year. The streets are lined with elegant Victorian and Georgian architecture, independent boutiques and cosy cafes, and sometimes local markets selling fresh produce and artisanal goods. One of the most prominent sites is the Great Malvern Priory, a former Benedictine monastery where you can today admire intricate stonework and magnificent stained glass windows.
