This long-distance footpath follows the course of the River Wye and is a classic route that draws in visitors from far and wide. The route spans an incredible 136 miles, starting in Chepstow in Monmouthshire and continuing all the way to Plynlimon in Powys. Whether you’re attempting the whole route on a multi-day adventure or looking to complete a shorter section, you can expect varied terrain and landscapes, from enchanting woodlands and pretty riverside paths to rolling hills and charming villages.
This 177-mile trail follows the England-Wales border and passes through the Wye Valley. The path is named after the ancient boundary of Offa’s Dyke that dates back to the 8th century. Some of the most beautiful sections around the Wye Valley include the viewpoints at The Devil’s Pulpit, looking out over Tintern Abbey, and Wintour’s Leap, perched high above the River Wye.
Symonds Yat is a charming village along the River Wye, which shares its name with the iconic Symonds Yat Rock. A circular walk from Symonds Yat East to Symonds Yat West (or vice versa) takes you to the rock’s incredible viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of the spectacular gorge and the winding river below. This is also a prime spot for birdwatchers, as it's one of the best sites to watch Peregrine Falcons which nest near the top of the rock.
