As Britain's oldest recorded town, Colchester in Essex boasts a wealth of historical landmarks and attractions. One of the town's top attractions is the iconic Colchester Castle, the largest Norman keep in England, which was built in the 11th century on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius. Today, it houses a museum which showcases the history of Colchester from the Roman period to the present day.
