Situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, amidst the magnificent Wensleydale landscape, Hawes is a prime destination for scenic walks, hikes and bike rides, and there is no end to the incredible trails you can discover here. The town is located on the famous Pennine Way, one of England's most iconic long-distance trails. Lace up your walking boots and head out to discover the rugged beauty of the Pennines. One of the best local walks takes you to the impressive falls of Hardraw Force, England's highest unbroken waterfall. There's an easy route from Hawes town centre, following parts of the Pennine way and through the fields along the River Ure towards the village of Hardraw. The waterfall is in the grounds of the Green Dragon Inn, a lovely spot for a rewarding pint or hearty meal after your walk out to the falls. Ease tired feet and muscles in the comfort of your holiday home, perhaps with a soak in your private hot tub or on the sofa beside the cosy log burner.
Yorkshire is well loved for its culinary delights, from full-bodied Yorkshire tea and fluffy Yorkshire puddings to pies made with high-quality meats like locally sourced lamb and beef. Like many Yorkshire towns and villages, Hawes holds a weekly farmers' market where you can pick up a range of tasty local produce and artisanal goods. If you're a cheese lover, then you've come to the right place! Hawes is home to the Wensleydale Creamery, where the renowned delicacy of Wensleydale cheese is produced using cow's milk sourced from local farms. There's a visitor centre that offers guided tours, providing insights into the cheese-making process, the history of Wensleydale cheese and the heritage of the creamery which dates back to the 12th century. Indulge in cheesy dishes at the cafe, then pick up some tasty treats and souvenirs from the shop to enjoy later.
Despite its small size, the charming market town of Hawes has plenty to offer for a short break with the family or a romantic weekend away with your partner. Take in historical landmarks and sites on the Hawes Heritage Trail, a self-guided walk that takes you around town. Visit the pretty churchyard at St. Margaret's Church, watch the skilled cratfsmen at Hawes Ropemakers, savour local dishes at one of the cosy pubs and tearooms, and discover the history and heritage of the Yorkshire Dales at the Dales Countryside Museum. From cosy cottages in Hawes to hot tub holiday lodges in Hawes, our choice of accommodation can cater to families, couples, large groups or solo travellers.
